Because of immense presence of spiders near human habitat across the world and the adjustments they biologically made to adapt to human environment, spider bites have a significant importance in medicine and culture. The diversity of spider species carries with itself a huge range of spider bites’ types. Sometimes, a spider bite can rouse muscle spasms, stiffness about the bite location, excessive sweating, headache, nausea or stomachache.
Depending on the strength of bite, one shouldn’t be surprised if they spot an unusual red, white or blue-colored rash around the area of bite. It all depends on the spider species you got bitten by. For instance, you will recognize the bite of the single brown spider if the reaction is as follows: in the beginning you feel no pain at all, and then, a few minutes after the bite, a red dot appears and then turns into a pimple. Few hours after, it develops into a painful injury which looks like a bruise, and few days after the bite a sore, gory cist with blue or gray colored circle around it appears.
This species of spider is located in Texas, but there is no rule or guarantee that you won’t encounter it somewhere else. In the situation of getting bitten by such spider, it is highly recommended that you contact the doctor, especially when you are not sure about the exact spider specie. However, these mechanical bites shouldn’t worry people too much. On the other side, venomous spiders are far more dangerous for their victims. There is a small number of spider species that do not produce venom, but negligible number is lethal for humans, as well. Two main types of venomous spider bites are necrotic, which assails areas around the bite and rarely systems of organs or organs, and neurotoxic, attacking the nervous system.
Only coldest parts of the world aren’t homes for extremely venomous spiders. There is no general scientific opinion by which a list of the most dangerous spiders can be made; however, there are some species that are known to have a bite with fatal consequences. One of the most illustrious is widow spider (also referred to as black widow, redback spider or katipo). In its essence, it is not an aggressive spider, but when it feels endangered, it will instinctively attack. The interesting fact is that male representative is of less possibility to harm then female ones. The bite symptoms resemble of tetanus symptoms (contractions), and can consequent with nervous system damage, but in most cases only a short medicine intervention is required. The other “popular” spider specie is, so called, brown recluse spider.
They gained a lot of attention in the decade behind us. Brown recluse spiders have authentic shape, with violin-like sign on the backs. Although they are quite small and their bite can be hardly spotted initially after the bite, but can produce severe pain, and if not treated in time, a culprit can lead to amputation. Therefore, it is an imperative for us to recognize the symptoms and eventually seek a doctor’s opinion, every time we suspect we got bitten by a spider.
