Rosacea

Rosacea is a condition where the skin that is around the cheeks, forehead and nose becomes flushed. It is a type of a skin disorder where the pimples in these areas become hard and the blood vessels are broken. People that are likely to have this condition are women who are between the ages of 30 and 50 most likely if those women have light hair and skin.

What causes the condition is not known, but those people that have it tend to flush very easily. The condition makes the person to look as though they have a permanent red appearance mostly around the chin and cheeks. These people also get broken blood vessels and pimples that are hard, and filled with pus. In a more serious case, the skin becomes thick and enlarged, making someone to look bulbous. While most of the symptoms are usually in the face area, they can also be found on other parts of the body like the scalp and the back. Some patients also experience an inflammation around their eyes; this is because the oil glands are blocked, and they become enlarged, thus creating some kind of swellings. This however does not interfere with vision.

A dermatologist is the doctor who is able to diagnose this kind of condition. Rosacea tends to have some similarities with acne and the doctor has to take a laboratory test and carefully examine the symptoms.

The condition is treated using a type of antibiotic that is found in some lotions and gels which is applied to the areas that are affected. Oral antibiotics, however, respond even better. The oral antibiotics are taken if the symptoms are not responding to the lotions and gels. The antibiotics have Vitamin A that helps to control the inflammation and pus. The severe kind of symptom that will not respond to the antibiotics will best be treated with surgery. Laser treatment is also used whereby it destroys the broken vessels and the pimples that have pus.

The doctor will most likely recommend one to stay away from foods or drinks that will cause their skin to flush. Foods with lots of spices, caffeine, sodas or alcohol should also be avoided. It is also advised that if that person is going to an area that has a lot of sun, it is best they wear sunscreen of big hats that will protect their skins. Rosacea is a condition that has no known cure, and it requires that the treatment to be ongoing.

Your doctor will ask you to avoid those foods or beverages that will most likely make your skin to flush. Such may be spicy foods, drinks, alcohol, and sodas. If you are going to an area that has a lot of sun, always wear sunscreen or a hat that will protect you from the rays of the sun.
If you have the Rosacea, you may think that it’s annoying because you always have to watch what you eat and take care when going to the sun. But since its not life threatening, you just need to do as the doctor asks and you will be good to go.
