Nosebleed

This is a situation whereby the membranes that are inside the noses are injured and they begin to bleed. Any person can get nosebleed, but it is more common among people who take drugs, children and even more in men than women.

Nosebleed occurs mainly during the cold dry winter season. The sneezing, picking of the nose, nose blowing due to infection are the major cause of the irritation that leads to the disturbance of the mucus membrane. The condition can cause damage to the head or the facial area. Other conditions like leukemia, diabetes, liver disease, or vitamin k deficiency are also associated with this condition. Blood comes from the nasal area where most of the tiny blood cells are present. There are people who get the bleeding at the back part of their heads which is a more serious case.

One of the symptoms that most people get is evident where the bleeding is experienced from the nose and it can be light or heavy. Bleeding at the back of the head is characterized by blood oozing slowly; there may be other symptoms like nausea, anxiety, dizziness, fainting and respiratory stress.

The condition is diagnosed depending on its characteristics and symptoms. If the bleeding is too heavy and is not stopping, then it is advisable for that person to see a doctor. If the bleeding occurs frequently, the doctor will look at your medical history to check whether you had an injury before. If not then, he will order a blood test and other condition to determine the underlying cause.

The first thing to treat the bleeding is to sit still and breath through the mouth while tilting the head forward so that blood will not go low down the throat. Pinch the nose for about 10 minutes; and if the bleeding has not stopped, do so again for another 10 minutes. If you notice that the bleeding does not stop after the 20 minutes, then go see a doctor who will inject your nose with a disinfected material that will prompt the blood to clot and stop the flow.

If the bleeding is more severe, then the doctor will be forced to repair the blood vessels that may have ruptured. For those that bleed at the back of their heads, the doctor will normally prescribe antibiotics to prevent or treat any kind of infection that may result from that.

If you are the kind of people that normally get nosebleeds during the winter, then you can humidify your home to help reduce the dryness of the air and moisten the mucous membranes. One can also moisturize the membranes by using petroleum jelly or use nasal spray. There is also antibiotic cream that soothes and heals the irritated area. It is not advisable for people to use their fingers to prick inside the nose and do not use inhaling drugs like cocaine if you are the kind of person that nosebleeds a lot. Avoid spicy food, vigorous exercise, hot beverages and low your nose gently.
