Neuritis is a medical condition that is associated with inflammation of the nerves or just a section of the nervous system. In severe cases, a series of the nerves in different parts of the body may be affected. This condition is not necessarily an inflammation, but it is a change in the condition of the nerves whose outcome is body weakness, change of sensation and the loss of reflexes. This condition is sometimes referred to as polyneuropathy.
Causes of Neuritis
The main cause of this condition is believed to be chronic acidosis, which means that there is excess acid in the body fluids and the blood. This happens when the acid matter is continuously formed in the body tissues for a long period of time instead of the alkaline reaction in the body fluids. This happens due to faulty diet, incorrect living habits and overworking, which tend to lower the nature of nervous system.
The condition can also be as a result of lack of Vitamin B, B12, B6 and B1. Other causes include heavy pressure over a nerve trunk, penetrating injury and fracture of the bones among others. It can also be as a result of some infections including tuberculosis, diabetes mellitus, diphtheria, insecticides, lead or mercury poisoning, alcohol and tetanus.
Signs and symptoms of neuritis
Some of the symptoms include
- Difficulty in walking in the dark
- Difficulty in closing the eyes that comes as a result of loss of normal tone and strength by the muscles on the affected side of the face; this happens at the acute stages of the condition.
- The patient will experience burning, tingling and stabbing pains in the affected nerves.
- Numbness and paralysis of the surrounding muscles.
Treatment and possible cure
Treatment of this condition is to make sure that the patient’s diet is well balanced with vitamins and other nutritional foods. Emphasis should be on whole grain foods such as whole wheat, brown rice, raw and sprouted seeds.
Administration of Vitamins B group has also been proved to be the most effective means of treatment for this condition. Pantothenic acid and Vitamins B1, B2, B6, B12 have done well in managing this medical condition.
In severe circumstances, patients should be put on a short juice fast for four or five days before nutritional diet.
Prevention tips and home remedies:
Some specific home remedies have been proven to be effective in managing and controlling of this condition.
Use of barley brew is one of the effective ways of managing this condition. It can be prepared by boiling a quarter cup of all the natural pearled barley in two quarters of water. For best results, you should add some buttermilk and lime juice.
The patient can also be put on three Epson-salt baths at least weakly and the affected areas must be bathed several times each day.
Patients should also be given raw carrots and spinach, which have been proven to be rich in elements. Drink at least a glass of the mixed raw juices of spinach and carrots daily.
