Improving Human Memory

The brain has many functions, and one of the most important ones is memory. Memory allows you to remember names, faces, routes to important places and ways to do simple things like walk and talk. It makes life that much easier and you don’t have to go through the hassle of learning everything from scratch. As you get older your brain starts to function at a level that is below par. To help keep your brain fit there are various methods you can use.

Brain games

The brain is much like a muscle and the more you do something the better your brain will work. The same is true when it comes to improving human memory. Memory is basically formed by making connections in your brain. Every time you remember something then that connection is made again and again, strengthening it. A fun way of doing this is by playing games. Games like sudoko, maths, and jigsaw puzzles are great. They rely on your memory as well as logical thinking. This will help to keep your brain fit.

Playing a game alone is fun, but with more people it is even better. When you have people over for dinner parties there are fun games you can play without even realizing that you are improving your memory. One game relies on guesswork. You put a set of items on a table and uncover it. You then give your guests a minute to look at the items and then close them with a sheet. They can then see how much they remember.

Be aware

You are constantly remembering things everyday and always making new memories. Another great way of improving human memory is being aware. Whenever you remember something big try to remember it fully and this will cement the connection even more. When you are creating new memories it helps to use your other senses as well. It may be a scent of perfume or food, the feel of rain or soft blankets. It may be the sound of music or a voice, or the sight of something pretty. Your brain doesn’t remember in words but it remembers in pictures. It is for this reason that you should take special note of this. You will soon see that your memory improves and your memories themselves are as clear as the day you made them.

Dietary changes

A healthy body is indeed a healthy mind. It will be a good investment in your future. Try to have at least half of your plate filled with good carbohydrates. Eat at least four to five portions of fresh fruit and vegetables everyday. Eat your meat without the skin, and try to eat the oily fish like sardines and shellfish. When preparing food try to use as little oil as possible, and opt for grilling or steaming. Use salt and sugar sparingly. Drink lots of water to get the toxins cleared out of your body. If need be you can start taking vitamin and mineral supplements.
