Hyperthyroidism

Thyroid is a butterfly shaped gland in the endocrine system that is responsible for the production of thyroid hormones known as triodothyronine (T3) and thyroxine (T4) that are responsible for metabolism and is located at the Adams apple; they also regulate the body temperature. If this organ; however, does not function properly, it leads to Hyperthyroidism. This condition occurs when the thyroid speeds up metabolism by working two times its normal working rate resulting in production of these hormones in excess. Production of thyroid hormones usually speeds up metabolism abnormally, hence causing one to drastically lose weight.

Symptoms of an overactive thyroid

Hyperthyroidism usually makes the person have difficulty gaining weight and have to frequently empty their bowels. This conditions make one have weight fluctuation. You may have been wondering why you keep gaining and losing weight yet the diet and everyday to day activities have not changed. Keep reading to find out why. One of the most visible symptoms is that of bulging eyes. Others include; increased heartbeat, sweating, hair loss, water retention in the hands or legs, low libido, depression and high cholesterol

There are several factors that have been attributed to cause the Hyperthyroidism. One could be due to changing eating lifestyles, eating over processed foods that contain heavy metal, exposure to environmental toxins, pollutants and pesticides, deficiency of iodine, inflammation of the thyroid gland, medications and too many surgeries. Other diseases such anemia and diabetes may also be to blame.

Chemicals found in sodas and other products may also be attributed to high rise in thyroid diseases. Fluorine, chlorine and bromine found in tapped water, sodas and certain medications are halogenated compounds which can take the place of iodine that should be used in metabolism resulting to malfunctioning of the thyroid gland.

The good news is that this condition is easy to diagnose and treat naturally

• One natural way to treat is quit smoking or less intake of tea because they contain nicotine. Nicotine usually increases the rate of metabolism abnormally. Also to be limited is caffeine.

• Increase the intake of iodized foods such as carbohydrates, proteins such as sea food and eggs is also very much recommended because they are rich in iodine. Take a lot vitamin B found in bananas and coconut oil in your diet.

• Certain vegetables such as cabbages and cauli-flower should be avoided because they are known to be goitrogenic. This means that goitrogenic uses up all the iodine in your body leaving it iodine deficient.

• Because of exposure to all kinds of toxins and pollutants, our bodies become intoxicated. It recommended that one should frequently use saunas steam baths to detoxify the body.

• Avoiding stress by doing exercises such as head stand and shoulder stand help in stimulating the thyroid to produce hormones.

It is important to get checked by a qualified doctor who will rightfully diagnose the disease so that it is not confused with other diseases. Thyroid stimulating hormone test is usually used to diagnose it. There are also several drugs that can be used to cure thyroid diseases; for instance, levothyroxine is commonly used.
