It is a condition commonly referred to as ADHD- Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder which mostly affects children. It is a medical condition that many have tried to define unsuccessfully in the past but which generally is caused by a disorder in the brain that makes a child to be inattentive, and restless all the time. Note that I have said all the time.
Many parents faced by this challenging situation may feel like giving up whenever they see their own child and have tried all forms of discipline in vain. However, do not lose hope because ADHD is a condition that over 90% outgrow after some time. Parents should be patient and in the meantime visit a doctor. Once the child has been diagnosed with ADHD, it is important to classify the symptoms because children with ADHD tend to behave differently. Classify them as those who are inattentive, those who are just restless throughout the day and those who portray all these symptoms.
It is good for you to understand hyperactivity; you need as a parent to know the symptoms. An example of an inattentive child is one who looks like is in a trance most of the time even in class and has low self esteem. Restless children on the other hand have difficulty when put in one place. They fidget a lot on their seats and want to do everything at one go. Other symptoms that ADHD children portray include getting bored easily, whether at home or in school. In other words, children with inattention symptoms are usually not interested in games and other stuff children their age enjoy. They prefer to be by themselves and are very quiet not just with other kid but also at home.
Other children with ADHD that are restless are usually very hard even for parents to control. Usually, these kids always want to be in control when playing with other kids. They also tend to be very distractive and extremely disorganized. These kids always have their hands full with one activity or the other all undertaken simultaneously. Parents have to be very concerned when their child starts showing these symptoms and get immediate help.
Adults who suffer from ADHD with hyperactivity tend to fall easy prey to drug abuse including smoking and drinking. They also tend to have multi-personality, are very rebellious and are usually the ones behind illegal activities in the society and in learning institutions. Some serious cases end in suicides. These people need understanding and guidance. They should not be judged wholly for their actions but to be helped. One such way is rehabilitating them from drug abuse.
Counseling is not the only effective treatment. Medication is also offered. Stimulants may be used if prescribed to help the ADHD child relax and focus on one thing. Tranquilizers are also very important. They have been known to work in some ADHD patients. The most effective treatment however is that prescribed by a doctor, because, like I explained earlier, not all ADHD patients have the same symptoms.
