Fibromyalgia Syndrome




Fibromyalgia is a condition that affects many people that causes intense physical pain to fatigue. The fibro part of Fibromyalgia results from the muscle tissues while the algia results from pain. Fibromyalgia affects the muscles, tendons and the ligaments throughout the whole body. Some of the symptoms of Fibromyalgia syndrome are achy and sore muscles. Your muscles feel as if they are sore and stiff all the time and can also come with twitching of the muscles.

Fibromyalgia syndrome can be present for years and although not many people will recognize that they have the syndrome, the symptoms are not known to get worse. Other symptoms of Fibromyalgia syndrome are: muscle burning, sleep disorders, irritable bowel syndrome and morning stiffness of the muscles as well as fatigue.

There are no known cures for Fibromyalgia but there are treatments that can help alleviate some of the pain. There are alternative treatments as well as drug treatments that are options.

It is not known what may cause Fibromyalgia syndrome in some people, but some of the possibilities that may cause the syndrome can range from injury muscle trauma, such as from a vehicle accident to abnormalities of the immune system, which means your body fights hard to ward off any illnesses and viruses. This alone can cause the body to develop inflammation in the muscles and cause severe pain.

Sleep disorders is another possibility as people with Fibromyalgia syndrome may realize that they cannot sleep throughout the night due to the pain, which in turn, can prevent the muscles from repairing at night while at rest. It is not known if the sleep disorder is the cause of the Fibromyalgia syndrome or if the sleep disorder is a problem because of it.

Medical treatment for Fibromyalgia syndrome can range from several visits to different types of doctors such as chiropractors, physiotherapists and occupational therapists. Treatment is different for each person as each person may suffer in a different way. Any problems and symptoms should be told to the doctor that is working with you. He may suggest treatments for nerve blockage, guaifenesin therapy, or progesterone therapy. One trip to the doctor will not solve Fibromyalgia syndrome. As a matter of fact, you may be making many trips due to the fact that it will take time to get to the root of the problem. You and your doctor will come up with a treatment solution that should work with the types of symptoms you are having.

Several tips and suggestion that you can try at home to take care of yourself when you have Fibromyalgia syndrome includes: exercise such as yoga, pilates or Tai chi, healthy eating, getting at least 8 to 9 hours of sleep, heat therapy, meditation and laugh more often. These are only a few things that you can do to help alleviate the pain and to take care of yourself under your conditions. Following a few simple changes in your lifestyle can be the difference in coping more with the symptoms you have.
