Environmental Toxicity

Environmental toxicity is a major world crisis. Both developed and developing countries are suffering from this problem. Toxic components from industries and other such facilities have invaded the water, air and the soil where we grow our food. All these toxic materials are then dumped into our bodies.

Shocking statistics show that in North America alone, there are over 77,000 chemicals that are being actively produced. More than 10,000 other chemicals are being used as solvents, preservatives, emulsifiers, and for storage, and wrapping. 3,000 other chemicals are added to food supply.

We ingest these chemicals in small quantities; some of these cannot be metabolized by our bodies. These are stored in the fat cells where they keep on accumulating. There are more than 20,000 chemicals that our bodies cannot digest.

This environmental toxicity causes chemicals to pile up in our bodies and cause adverse reactions. They can create hormonal imbalances, enzyme dysfunction, nutritional deficiencies and even cancer. Since these chemicals accumulate in different parts of the body, they can cause very many illnesses because of the different combinations and quantities in which they accumulate.

Everyone has been exposed to environmental toxicity from time of birth to date. The toxins have been piling in our bodies and when they reach a very high and dangerous quantity, they manifest as chronic symptoms or result to death from cancer or heart diseases.

There are a number of common sources of these harmful toxins. Plastic bottles and wraps outgas plasticizers which get into food can not go unmentioned. These chemicals mimic hormones and end up damaging our endocrine system.

Research done in the US revealed that 50 to 90% of the food consumed in the region had traces of pesticide residues. Pesticides damage the glandular and endocrine systems. What is even scarier is that compared to the 1940s, the US now uses 30 times more pesticides.

Next time you pay a visit to the dentist, remember this. Dental fillings made of silver contain mercury that can be absorbed into the lungs and the surrounding tissue. This is one of the major causes of Parkinson’s disease and other neurological complications.

Floor carpets averagely outgas over 12 chemicals that can cause diseases. One such is benzene, a chemical popularly known for causing leukemia.

Research has shown that most people have between 400-800 chemical residues stored in their bodies. Most people tested for toxicity were found with PCBs, dioxins, xylene and dichlorobenzene in the fat cells. In their exhaled breath, they had carcinogenic benzene, and percholoethylene.
Since these chemical cannot be excreted from the body, they find their way to the liver and then stored in the fat cells. Fat cells are found in all organs of the body; this means they are spread to various organs in the body. The body can only excrete a certain percentage of toxins; when this is exceeded, the extra chemical are just stored.

Heavy metals and chemicals contribute the greatest to environmental toxicity. These two lead to bioaccumulation that ends up affecting us psychologically and physiologically, and eventually leads to chronic illnesses and death.

There are certain symptoms that can tell us when we are highly toxic. However, these maybe assumed to be minor diseases. Some of them include: chronic fatigue, inflammatory and autoimmune diseases, skin conditions, headaches and many more.
