Dry skin




Xerosis may sound like a very complicated and difficult to apprehend but it is nothing but dry skin. The human skin produces many natural oils to keep the skin moist and soft, so that it is prevented from injury and getting dried up. The skin is the largest part that covers the entire body and it is necessary to take good care of it.

When sufficient amount of oil is not produced, obviously, the skin becomes dry leading to dryness, itching, and pain. The various reasons that contribute to the dryness of the skin are lack of care, dry airy atmosphere and medical conditions. Taking bath in very hot water will also dry away the skin.

Dry skin makes the person become very sensitive and when the skin becomes very parched, it would cause discomfort and dullness. The characteristics of dry skin are tiny lines around sensitive areas like eyes and mouth and skin being tightly drawn over the skin. Persistent condition of dry skin has to be immediately addressed.

Some of the mild occurrences of dry skin can be treated at home through adequate skin career and modifying the diet. Dry skin is due to various factors like age, frequent bathing, dehydration of the body, gender (women are more prone during menopause), health conditions like diabetes, excessive exposure to sunlight as also eczema.

Using soaps with added moisturizers help to get rid of dry skin. Cleansers can also be used. Deodorants and anti bacterial soaps cause dry skin. Moisturizers act as a barrier between the skin and other elements and try to hold water in the skin tissue. When the moisture of the skin is washed away the moisturizers try to retain them. They have to be applied after cleaning the skin. It is also a good idea to apply moisturizer to damp skin as it prevents dry skin. But it is not advisable to use sunscreen and moisturizer simultaneously.

Lack of nourishment is the reason for dry skin and therefore, it is essential to nourish them and the best time is to apply nourishing creams at night as it would stay for a longer time and be free from any pollutants and pollution particles.

The consoling factor is however severe dry skin is, it can be treated effectively. Therefore, if the source of the problem is known, it is easier to treat dry skin. Depending upon the severity, ordinary, intensive or mediocre moisturizers can be used.

Dry skin moisturizes have the tendency to be absorbed into the blood stream and therefore, it is necessary to check whether the product used contains ingredients that are safe to the body. Organic products that are natural will help a great deal in tackling this issue as they penetrate beneath the surface of the skin and thus, treat the underlying dryness of the skin and remove it gently and securely.

Things that should be avoided are synthetic fragrances, glycol and glycerin, lanolin, and anti per spirants. Some simple changes in the lifestyle will go a long way in preventing dry skin and its repercussions.
