Cystic Fibrosis

One of the most severe body disorders that anyone can deal with is cystic fibrosis. It is a dangerous condition that can cause severe breathing difficulties and can cause damages in various organs. There is no cure for the condition and it can also significantly reduce a person’s life expectancy. Some things can be done to lessen the effects of this condition though.

In this condition a gene in the body that does not work properly will impact proteins that are used to help with getting sodium chloride to from between cells. As a result mucus will end up building in inside of the body on a regular basis. When this occurs the lungs and other areas of the body will not be able to work properly.

Because the condition will be more likely to impact the lungs various different harmful breathing disorders will be more common. A constant cough and cases of wheezing can easily occur. A person can also end up being more likely to suffer from lung infections.

Eventually cystic fibrosis can end up causing the lungs to be damaged due to how the tissues in them will be harmed by the constant infections that they would have to deal with. As a result of this it can be harder to breathe due to the lack of proper lung functions. When this happens the effects can be fatal.

Other areas of the body, particularly different organs outside of the lungs, can also be impacted. The mucus that builds up in the body will end up disrupting the ability of the body to absorb nutrients from foods because of how digestive enzymes will not be able to move into the intestines on a regular basis. With this severe blockages in the body can occur and it will be difficult for the body to gain weight that it might need in order to stay healthy.

In addition to this the bile ducts in the body can be blocked up, thus causing the liver to end up retaining too much bile. This can cause the liver to weaken and develop cirrhosis of the liver.

There is no real trigger that can cause cystic fibrosis other than the genetics that flow in one’s family. A person who is in a family that has a history of this condition will be more likely to develop it. In fact some people with the condition can pass it on to others that are directly related to them. It also helps to know that people who are white and of European descent will be ones that are more likely to develop it.

Average people with this disorder will more than likely end up living into one’s thirties or forties primarily because of its severe effects. However many treatments over the years have helped to improve the life expectancy of a person with it. The use of an inflatable vest on the chest that can vibrate can work to loosen up mucus buildups. Inhalant medicines like albuterol have also been found to relax lung muscles while antibiotic medicines can help to keep infections from occurring.
