Aging




Aging in a natural process in humans that occurs as a person gets older. These changes include the physical body, psychological factors and even social elements. These vary from person to person and can increase or decrease depending on certain habits that an individual may have or alterations that a person may make.

As a person grows older, metabolism slows down and skin loses it elasticity. If the person was involved in heavy drinking or smoking, other changes internally may take place as well aside from the visible external signs. The lungs and kidneys may not function as well as they used to. When a person ages, other things such as the immune system tend to not be able to fight off as many types of viruses that it used to. Reaction times slow down, and many individuals experience the gradual loss of vision or hearing.

Psychologically, the brain may not function as it would normally. Sometimes diseases more common to elderly become a factor such as Alzheimer’s disease or dementia. On this note, some aging individuals are able to keep their minds going very strong even until their 90’s. The knowledge, experience, and wisdom have added up over the years and they can add valuable ideas to the world around them. All of this influences their social life. These individuals depending on their overall health may suffer from lack of social contact or may hold very good social lives until very old age. All of these vary according to each person, their lifestyles, their genetics, amongst other factors.

There are ways to alter changing physical appearances through surgery, creams, laser treatments, and many more elements. There have been many technological advances in the medical world concerning eliminating wrinkles and other naturally occurring processes. Many medicines are available to assist those that have developed psychological conditions or diseases. To help with the social part of an aging person’s life, there are various organizations that organize group activities to encourage these individuals to spend more time with company.

For those individuals who are only entering the primary stages of aging, there are ways to reduce the effect of the years that do not include surgeries or any invasive procedures. The dominant ways include a change in lifestyle. By taking various supplements such as vitamins and minerals, the organs have a better supply to use. There are various other types of medicines that can be used as well. Anti-aging creams and gels, both chemical and natural, are available on the market for external purposes.

By keeping one’s mind active, an aging person can stop the effect of their passing years on their brain. This can be done through puzzles, art, music, reading, and many other such things. This keeps the brain thinking which is shown to prevent various aging diseases.

Socially, being involved in various organizations, religious groups and similar things can keep the person feeling healthier physically and mentally. Humans tend to be social creatures, and by keeping this channel open, people are happier and being happy promotes better health.
